Color Choice

You know you are a computer geek when your selection for the color for your web page logo is based on the hexadecimal value that it produces. So when I was setting up our web site to provide more information than the blog does I came across x0000da which besides being a nice shade of blue it is also equal to the first and last initial of my name and DeAnna’s name. So if you initials happen to only include the letters A through F you now have a good place to start when trying to decide on a color for a logo.

d squared + j squared = Anderson

d squared + j squared = Anderson

It looks like I’m not the only one to try this – Check out x0000fb and the Facebook logo, they are pretty close.

Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday is the day in the Christian faith that we celebrate the triumphant entry of the King into Jerusalem. At church today all the kids were able to take the palm branches and wave them in the service as a reminder of this event. As I rejoiced and worshiped with the church and watched the children I thought back to what it must have been like to have been there over 2000 years ago to be able to shout “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord”. I rejoice that someday I will be able to worship with those who were there for his first triumphant entry into the city.

Wiffle Ball

Today was the official wiffle ball game of the Red’s (Boston) vs the Blue’s(Kansas City) at Noah’s 9th Birthday party. With the teams random selection there was no crying when the teams were divided up but it seemed that more ended up on the red team prior to making it to the field. I think this might have something to do with the number of Boston fans at the party.

It was extra windy which kept the kids and the dads running for a ball that had a mind of its own. After 5 innings the there was a tied game so everyone decided it would be more fun to go get some food to eat. It’s always good to end a game with 4-9 year olds with a tied game. I think the USPPBA (United States Perforated Plastic Baseball Association yes this is really an organization) would not be happy that we didn’t follow the rules for a tie game, but we were just having fun.

Fun at Toys-R-Us

So what do you do when you are 4 years old and have $25 to spend on whatever you want at the super toy store? I’ll try to list all the toys that were picked up before settling on the final selection:

• Super Bubble blower $4.99
• Diego Bubble blower $8.99
• Fishing pole with  fake fish to catch $19.99
• Every lollipop within reach – .99 – $4.99
• 4 different Lego cars – $5.99 each
• Sponge Bob Lego set – $13.99 @ 20% off
• Set of 5 Lego guys – $4.99
• Bendaroos – $9.99
• Go Diego Go Watch – $9.99
• Thomas The Train magnetic train set $7.99
• Thomas the Train Round House $49.99
• Mickey Mouse book with plush Mickey $19.99
• Sponge Bob Play-Doh kit – $9.99
• Super Hero’s Valentines – $0.10

And this was all in the first 3 aisles, he wasn’t even able to make it to the hot wheels section of the store, but you only get to be 4 once so he went with the Go Diego Go Watch, Sponge Bob Play-Doh set, special lollipop and the Super Hero’s Valentines. This will probably be the last time for a long time that we will get to have such a selection of toys so we let him have fun selecting.

Advantages to getting strep throat

Today was Jonah’s 4th Birthday and he was holding his neck when he woke up and said that it hurt to swallow so I took him to urgent care. The nurse saw that it was his birthday and gave him a free coupon for an ice cream cone at Dairy Queen and then when we went to the pharmacy she also saw that it was his birthday and he was able to choose two lollipops. Now I don’t know if this makes up for being sick on your birthday but I’m more of the glass is half-full kind of guy.

If only Jonah knew President Obama he might have got a new iPod for his birthday like he gave to Queen Elizabeth II today and it wasn’t even her birthday.

But Jonah is happy with the Lego car from Mommy and Daddy. But then who isn’t happy when they have a blue tounge.

Wiggly Visa Process

This was worse than Y2K and SQL slammer combined and today all computers stopped working. April Fools.
Thankfully the Campus French computer administrators were proactive the other day when their web site was offline and I can only assume that they were protecting their site from the sky is falling conficker worm that is going to take control of everything according to CNN – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhvEtddQE_c. In case you haven’t protected your computer from this worm it’s not too late since it’s not very wide spread in the United States there are several sites out there if you just google conficker+removal.
We were able to get our information submitted and now we are moving onto the next step of sending our acceptance letter and a money order to have the information processed.
Yesterday I did check my computers to make sure I didn’t have any of the symptoms associated with the conficker worm and that I had the required Microsoft MS08-067 installed.
Time to go play with Play-Dough, I think it’s turning into the conficker worm though and taking over my laptop…

Visa Work and Hot Wheels

I wonder why government organizations are so interested in gathering so much information.  What do they really do with it all? I think back to all the information that I collected over my years as a federal employee and I wonder where it all went. Today my first work day as a nonfederal employee was spent providing the French with all of the classes that I took in high school and college and the grade I received at least until the web site went down, I guess they need some IT help too. But I’m sure there is a link between the B I got in Zoology in 9th grade and how well I will be able to learn what a le chat (cat) and le chien (dog) are.
So what does Visa Work have to do with Hot Wheels? Noting really but l took a picture of the line of cars we had in between typing in the classes, one car for each class and I thought the green cars were a good grades and the yellow cars were OK grades and the red cars were the grades I didn’t think I would ever need to look at again. I’m glad that I had more green cars then red cars.

Hello World

I’ve finally started the blog.  The name truly shows that I’m just a big geek at heart, the guys at work (old work) helped me come up with the name when I told them that I was getting ready to start blogging. So for those who didn’t get the D squared plus J squared = Anderson, our names our David, DeAnna, Joshua and Jonah and together we equal the Anderson Family and I thought it sounded catchy to have the name of the blog to be a mathematical equation. So what am I doing just playing on the computer? No I’m working on improving our communication as we move forward with Wycliffe with those people who have a vested and concerned interest in what we are doing. I hope that my blogs help keep everyone up to speed with the daily blessings and struggles that we face as we follow God’s call on our life.
