Fun Filled Monkey Field Trip

Baby MonkeyNow I’m not really sure why the monkey is wearing baby clothes but this is the zoo in Pleasant Hill Missouri and they want to pamper the animals. They wear the diapers for the same reason humans do, to prevent the person that is holding the baby from getting tinkled on. The baby wallaby also has the same special treatment, but he liked to chew on the children’s clothing.

I sure don’t want to have to explain to the monkey how to use the urinal when he gets bigger, I wouldn’t know what he’s suppose to do with his tail.

I guess it doesn’t really matter what they were wearing since Jonah had a good time on his field trip. All I know is that Jonah really misses the monkey and he doesn’t understand why we couldn’t bring him home to our house.

Six uses for a dandelion

Since I have another crop of dandelions that are almost ready to be harvested I thought I would see if there are any practical uses for them besides bird food and entertainment for the kids. If anyone tries any of these please send me the photos so I can add them to this post.

Bird eating a dandelion

  1. When the roots are processed correctly make the best laxative ever. You can never have too many of these lying around the house
  2. Hypertension
  3. Coffee or tea, I’m trying to find this recipe so I can have the kids sell this on the street instead of lemonade when school is out
  4. Yellow crayons
  5. Nectar for bees to make more dandelions and honey
  6. Dandelion salad (make and eat at your own risk – but if you need some dandelion greens give me a call)
  • Clean, dried dandelion greens, approx. two handfuls
  • Five strips of bacon, fried crisp, let cool and break apart
  • ½ cup vinegar
  • Small red onion diced
  • ¾ tsp. Sugar
  • In a shallow pan of boiling water, add dandelion leaves for just long enough to heat, drain off water and add remaining ingredients, only adding enough sugar to cut any remaining bitterness. It is best to experiment with the sugar. Salt and pepper may also be added to taste. Serve while still warm.

Anderson Family Latest – May 2009

God’s Loving Providence

· At the Kansas City Baptist Temple Missions Conference a woman approached our table and pointed on the map to where she was visiting from in Cameroon. She shared how she is anxiously awaiting to get a Bible in own mother tongue in 2011.

· After they read about our journey with Wycliffe in the local newspaper we received a phone call from retired missionaries from the Central African Republic. After some interaction, he offered to tutor us in French.

· While sharing at First Church of the Nazarene in Warrensburg, David shared how a challenge at church five years ago led him to a group of Bible Translators in Sierra Leone working on a translation in the Kona language. A young woman came up after the service and shared that she is from Sierra Leone and the Kona language is her tribal language.

· We were able to complete and receive confirmation on the first step in the visa procedure.

· During Awana Puggles class one of the other teachers who works with DeAnna shared the prayer card of some of her close friends serving in Cameroon. DeAnna soon discovered that this family is in Maroua, Cameroon, the same city we will be serving in.

Amazing Blessings

We have been so blessed by having opportunities to share our broken hearts for the 200 million Bibleless people waiting to have God’s love letter in his/her language. We were warmly welcomed at Kansas City Baptist Temple during their Summit Missions Conference, Christ United Methodist Church and First Church of the Nazarene. Sharing encourages us and energizes us as we prepare for our departure. We would love to have the privilege of sharing this exciting work with you and/or with your church, Sunday school class, small group or over dessert.

Email from Cameroon

Here is an excerpt from an email we recently received and they asked us to share it in our next newsletter:

We recently heard from a missionary couple working in Cameroon. They were greatly encouraged to hear about our desire to serve in the same area and are eagerly looking forward to our arrival. They shared that “there are not enough missionaries working in support roles in the region.” They know first hand how much help David could provide with his training in IT. They also look forward to the encouragement and Christian fellowship that we hope to bring as brother and sister in Christ. They are praying that the Lord would prepare the way for us to join the laborers already working in the harvest in Cameroon.

How will you Partner with us?

· Will you pray for us regularly?

· Will you serve as advocates and introduce us to your friends and family so they can also hear our story?

· Will you support us financially either one-time or for language school or on an ongoing monthly basis?

· Will you cross the bridge with us on this journey?

Mother’s Day Card

Happy Mother's DayWatch out Halmark Joshua was able to bring his mom to tears with his homemade card. I thought it was the front cover that captured her overall thriftness with all the pictures of the flowers having a SALE on them but it was the inside that truly captured his LOVE for his Mommy. Happy Mother’s Day!

Garage Sale – not a good reason to skip school

Joshua woke up today and said he didn’t want to go to school. At first we thought he was still sick but he couldn’t tell us what hurt, he just didn’t want to go to school. So DeAnna emailed his teacher and said he wouldn’t be there.

Then he said he wanted to stay home and help Mommy. We explained that if he could help he could go to school, so he put on the saddest face he could make. Then I told him that the garage sale was tomorrow so he decided he was OK to school, so that gave us 10 minutes to get ready and get to school, and since he is an Anderson male he knows exactly what time he needs to leave the house and we had already passed that time on the clock.

I took him to school and went in to tell his teacher that he would be there today and that he wasn’t sick he was just scared that mommy was going to sell his toys without going through his approval process first.

Sickness

When Joshua screams out in the middle of the night that he needs a drink of water that is really code that he is going to be throwing up in a few seconds so either you grab him and get him to the bathroom or you have a big mess and normally a really bad smell that lingers for a few days. I can’t figure out what makes that smell so bad since it never smells that bad when it first went in his mouth.

We’re not sure what he had we are guessing some kind of food poisoning since he never had a fever and he was up every few minutes in pain throughout the night grabbing his stomach, so we sat on the couch and I handed him the bowl whenever he flinched, one time he even commented on how quick I was able to get the bowl to him. He slept most of the afternoon and that seems to have helped him hold things down.

Power of Prayer

prayinghandsWith tomorrow being the National Day of Prayer I wanted to share a story I recently heard about the power of prayer.

In 1982 there was a vision to pray for the people groups that needed a translation around the world and the Bibleless People Prayer Project was started.

In 1983 the first couple began praying for the Tira language in northern Sudan.

The month they began praying, Fajak, who was not a Christian, living in the Sudan had a dream; and in that dream he was visited by an angel that told him he should read Psalm 51. The problem was that the only Bible available to him was in English and he didn’t speak English. So, Fajak went to a priest and they read Psalm 51 to him in Arabic. That very day Fajak gave his life to Jesus!

In 1986 Fajak had gone to enroll at a small Bible college in southern Sudan. While he was there Wycliffe translators visited the school to share about the need for translation of the Gospel. It was at that time that he felt called to translate the Tira language. That very month the second group began praying for the Tira language. At that time Wycliffe was not able to assist with the project in Northern Sudan so Fajak committed to pray for the Tira translation project

Fast forward to 1991 and Fajak had continued to pray that God would lead people to northern Sudan so he could be trained to translate the Tira language. One day Fajak was in Khartoum and was introduced to Wycliffe by a mutual friend and in March he was enrolled in an introductory translation principle course in Nairobi. Also in that March the third team began praying for the Tira language. He did so well that he was enrolled to complete his degree in translation and over the next ten years he translated the NT and portions of the OT into the Tira language.

In April 2008 they had just finished the type setting of the Tira Bible and there was a celebration and there was a 6 year old drummer that was part of the worship band at the celebration who was called forward and was handed the first copy of the Tira NT.

Fajak said, “Unlike us this boy will grow up with the word of God in his language available to him and he will be led by God.”

Pray with me on this National Day of Prayer for those who still do not have a Bible in a language that they understand.

Music and Motion

Pleasant Hill 2009 Kindergarten Music and Motion Performance

Pleasant Hill 2009 Kindergarten Music and Motion Performance

Tonight was the Kindergarten program at Joshua’s school and all 160+ Kindergarteners had a special program to show their parents. As everyone adjusted their tri-pods and prepared their camcorders for the videos to be uploaded to you-tube or possibly catch the next American Funniest Video we waited in eager anticipation as all the children went to their spots they were assigned on the gym floor.

The program started off with a song that they all sang and after that it was time for the motion. There were six separate shows going on all at the same time, even the Ringling Brothers Circus can only handle three events at any one time.

As I followed Joshua around the gym with my finger on the camera button so I wouldn’t miss a good shot I watched him lift the parachute up and down with his class mates in unison and then hide under it. The next location was hula-hoop aerobics and they all did an awesome job of throwing them down to the ground at the exact same time. Next was the ribbon on a stick, then the colorful handkerchiefs that they waved over their heads. I never really figured out the next one, it reminded me of a cross between hide-and-go seek and peak-a-boo. Then they pretended to be swimming with two pieces of lace as at the car wash was played.

For the grand finale they were all given a balloon and they all danced in unison to the Circle of Life song from the Lion King. I was impressed that even when some of the kids dropped the balloons they didn’t fall out of formation to pick them up. We were very proud of Joshua and his cousin Nelson they had an outstanding performance tonight with all their friends.

Great night at the K

Last night I went to the Royals game with some friends and it was a blast to watch as Greinke pitched. It was awesome to watch as he struck out player after player. The weather was perfect and the fans were excited and I got to see all the changes they made to Kauffman Stadium. We had some of the new seats in the outfield above the waterfalls, so close that you could almost touch the water. It was a great view to watch the game from but they only sell these tickets 2 1/2 hours before the game so you need to get there early to get the seats.

Best of all the Royals won 3-0!
