10 year Anniversary

Today is our 10 year anniversary and in case you haven’t heard my wife is still falling for me. After we walked down the aisle and headed off for the reception she was attacked by the rock path that we have determined was the cause of the fall, the path has yet to be punished but I haven’t given up hope that we will see justice for the fall.

As we look back we are excited to see how God has been so faithful to us and has always been there to pick us up when we fall.falling

Preschool Graduation

This evening Rainbow Kingdom celebrated the completion of the 2009 school year. They started off with a contest to see who could say the Pledge of Allegiance the loudest and I’m glad to report that I was not a judge because it would have been a close call between a few of the older students; those five year olds are exceedingly patriotic.

Then Jonah and his classmates shared with all that were in attendance the lessons they learned through song and interpretive dance, watch out Dancing with the Stars these kids are going to put you out of business. They rocked us out with the ABC’s and if you were unaware the wheels on the bus still go round and round and the baby has not stopped crying since Joshua sang the song 2 years ago. They also shared a song about some monkeys that couldn’t comprehend that the alligator was going to have them for dinner. Then they shared My Mother is a Baker which Jonah has been making up new versions to for the last few weeks so we were glad to see the final version.

Immunizations Day

Shot timeAlthough this is not an official holiday yet, we were able to get Joshua out of school 2 hours early to celebrate our plans to head overseas. We had to go to the Jackson County Health Department to get our immunizations before going overseas since that’s the only place in the metro to get some of these immunizations.

When we picked up Joshua he asked, where are we going? We answered Independence

Half way there he asked, what are we going to do there? We answered we are going to the Health Department.

A few minutes later he asked, why? We answered because we need to before we go away.

So after we were there and we were called back to our room Joshua and Jonah were doing a very good and after we determined with the nurse that we needed a total of 13 immunizations and 2 orals for the 4 of us she left the room to go get them.

As we waited Joshua realized that immunization meant shots and we were about to get some. His demeanor changed from pleasant to worry. We shared that Mommy and Daddy needed more and we would go first. As Daddy and Mommy went Joshua gave a play by play of what the nurse was doing and Jonah held our hands so it wouldn’t hurt. Both our boys got their shots with just a few tears, but they were short a few shots so we get to go back again in 30 days.

Graduation 2009

I went to a graduation today and listened to the speakers’ share their thoughts for the future and what one needs to do to succeed and all the normal things you hear at a graduation. But there was one thought that kept going through my mind that could have saved everyone two hours today.

So for those valedictorians or famous people that need to give a commencement speech here is one that will inspire those that are graduating and give them the charge that they can carry for a lifetime. Sorry this is a little late for some of you that spoke today. But this is short and sweet and those that are listening will be sure to love it.

Class of 2009Graduates, today is a special day and one that you will remember for many years to come. It is the completion of years of hard work and sacrifice but today is not the end; it is only the beginning of the rest of your life.

Graduates, do what you’re told by your parents, teachers and bosses. And don’t just do the minimum that will get you by. Do your best all the time. Work from the heart for your real Master, for God, confident that you’ll get paid in full when you come into your inheritance. Always keep in mind that the ultimate Master you’re serving is Christ. The worker who does shoddy work will be held responsible. Being a follower of Jesus doesn’t cover up bad work.  [Paraphrase of The Message by Eugene Petterson Colossians 3:22-25]

Sunday morning confession

Sunday morning starts off with a request from the four year old for breakfast and a fresh piece of blue tape all prior to the alarm going off.

After they have their breakfast and I’ve showered I sit down to drink my first cup of coffee, the best cup of the day, and read the paper.  I’m told that we “never” get to play games, and it was time to play Woody Monopoly. This is the junior version from Toy Story that takes almost as long as the regular version. So we played until a dice role knocked all the houses off the board.

Time to get the boys dressed for church and after we found an acceptable wardrobe that was not too hot and was soft enough and the buttons were not too hard to push and they could put it on all by themselves they were almost ready. But there was still time for someone to get hurt so they were able to hang upside down on the couch and fall and cry a few times before it was time to head out the door. I guess they thought that gravity only worked outside or when the front door was open.

Before going out the door we had a double meltdown since I was not allowing any toys for the ride to church, fifteen minutes is a long time to go without the bouncy ball and plastic dagger that are fun toys to throw when driving down the road, especially if you’re the driver and the name of the game is dodge ball.

In the car I’m told I have to go to jail for the horrific crime of not allowing toys in the car and the fact that they “never” get to play with their toys ever. It’s almost 9am and time to get to church.

I’m very thankful that we serve a Heavenly Father that sees beyond all our daily tantrums that we throw when we don’t think things are going our way. He is still there to walk with us and help us with the daily struggles of life.

Unwritten T-Ball Rules

Joshua's playing Third base

Tonight was the first night that Joshua was able to make to T-Ball practice and I noticed there are a few rules that  I heard the coaches repeat several times throughout the night. So in order to help I thought I would record the rules so they can be shared with any player that missed them tonight.

1. Don’t play kick the rocks in the gravel in the in field to see how much dust you can make

2. Don’t hit the coach with the bat when they are putting the ball on the t-ball stand (there was a close call but he had quicker reflexes then I do)

3. Don’t swing the bat while sitting on the bench, someone else might need the bat

4. Don’t forget to throw the ball to first base

5. Don’t forget to run after you hit the ball

6. Don’t run with the bat

7. Don’t run to get the ball in right field if you are playing third base

8. Don’t forget your glove when you go out to play outfield

9. Don’t forget this is fun

Audio Bible Papua New Guinea

Great story about a man named Zacchaeus, and not the wee little man that I sang about in Sunday School. This also shows how God’s Word is getting out with some of the new technologies that are now available. I highly recommend reading the article.
