Shots

There has got to be a better way to give children shots then to let them see what is coming. Even when I donate blood I don’t have to see the needle coming, they hide it under the chair and say “you’re going to feel a prick and a pinch”. Today was Jonah’s well visit and he received all his Kindergarten shots that he will need when we are in France. I’ve always been at work when the boys had their well visits so I don’t need to see the look of betrayal in their eyes as you hold their hands down so the nurse can stick them in their legs with all the needles.

I'm glad it wasn't my turn

I think he was over the trauma within a few minutes, at least by the time we got to the ice cream store, so he could have an ice cream cone since he was such a big boy.

The only question the doctor raised was about the blue tape (also known as Scotch-Blue Painter’s Tape for Delicate Surfaces) on his forehead, and we explained that it’s just part of his daily routine to put it on. Some kids like blankets and some have special outfits but Jonah’s is blue tape. The blue tape and the batman sticker from the doctor helped him with his shots today since all Daddy did was hold him down.

Bendaroos disappointment

For those who have missed the commercials on Bendaroos count yourself blessed. But, if you allow your children to watch any cartoons I’m sure they have seen at least one commercial for these AMAZING FLEXIBLE BUILDING STICKS (their words not mine). I promised Jonah that if he would be a big boy and use the potty I would buy him something that he wanted, and he asked for Bendaroos. I knew they were too good to be true but he had to have them. Since he has starting using the potty we decided Bendaroos were a relatively inexpensive reward, so we went to the store to get them. We brought them home from the store and he couldn’t wait to play with them, unfortunately we must have purchased the broken pack since he was unable to make any of the shapes or do any of the things they did on TV, but they did stick to the wall for a few minutes.

So Jonah was able to learn two things that will be invaluable for the rest of his life.

  1. How to use the bathroom
  2. Commercials on TV bend the truth better than all the Bendaroos combined

Duck Duck Goose

I was watching the kids get all of their stuffed animals out of their bed room and place them in the living room because they needed more players for duck duck goose. Since it was only the two of them they needed to get another 10 players to have a good game. So the next time you want to play duck duck goose and only have two people you can use the stuffed animals that are laying around the house. Caution, the stuffed animals will run as fast as you and therefore you could be caught and lose the game. Next time I’ll try and capture this on video.

Recession hits Fazoli’s

I recall the days of long ago, at least 6 years ago but less than 10, that when you dined at Fazoli’s there was a special person that walked around the restaurant and did nothing but put more breadsticks on the plastic lid of your pasta dish. Then as time progressed the family was traveling back east and we saw the red tomato offering “cheap” kids meals, so we stopped. As we walked up I was looking forward to eating a dozen or so breadsticks before hitting the road again but I soon found out you were limited to only one refill. Tonight though it finally has become TOO MUCH! The bread engineer that was trained to know when you needed more butter-drenched-garlic breadsticks was nowhere to be found, I then saw the sign “All the breadsticks you want are at the counter [Dine in only].”

Hopefully they will be able to bring back the breadstick engineer before we forget how dining out at a fast food restaurant is suppose to be. So my suggestion is every time you dine at Fazoli’s you explain to them that you really miss the bread stick engineer.

Fun with a plastic airplane

We were having fun launching the plastic airplanes with the rubber band launcher in the backyard and letting the boys run after them until the neighbor came over.  I decided to let him have a chance to launch the plane and he did it a few times until he got closer to the neighbor’s roof and then he shot it up on the roof. So, I got the ladder out of the garage and knocked on the neighbor’s door with the ladder under my arm, first time I ever spoke with them, and asked for permission to climb up on their roof to get the airplane down.  The airplane is now safe and sound and back in the garage. I sure didn’t know you could have this much fun with a $1 airplane from Wal-Mart.

Too many dandelions . . .

This is a picture of our backyard.

100_0509

There are approximately 100 million pretty yellow flowers in the backyard according to my four year old expert gardener and flower picker extraordinaire, also known as Jonah. He loves picking them for mommy and daddy every chance he gets and he wonders where all the pretty flowers that he picks go? At our old house I would have called the lawn service and asked that they come and remove these, but now that we are renters I am enjoying what God has given us maybe not as much as Jonah but it’s fun to watch him pick just the right flower for mommy.

Neat Receipts

It’s been a fun afternoon playing, I mean working diligently at converting our old documents, tax records and phone bills for some reason that we still have from 2001 to a more transportable size then the big banker boxes that are in the garage. If you haven’t seen neat receipts I highly recommend that you check it out, the scanner is highly portable and scans a sheet in just a few seconds. The software that comes with it is very user friendly and it evaluates the values on your receipts for filing.

I couldn’t think of anything fun to do with the huge trash bag of shredded documents, maybe a ticker tape parade down Addie Drive but I’m afraid the neighbors wouldn’t care for that so I’ll let the sanitation engineer have all the fun with the shredded documents.

Only a few more boxes to scan and we will be digitized or at least our old papers will be.

No more ticker tape parade

Ultimate Boot CD for Windows

I was getting my UBCD repair disk out to help someone and I found out that the next version is scheduled to be out in the next few days. For those who ever needed a bootable CD that could do everything for them when trying to rescue, repair, backup, remove viruses or spyware this is a must have for your tool kit. It also can remove those pesky forgotten admin passwords in just a few seconds and is easy to use, although it takes some time to setup and create the original CD. If you are already using this or have never used it check out his website http://www.ubcd4win.com/.

French Tutor

We have truly been blessed this week. We received a call earlier in the week from a man that we met after an article was published on us in the Pleasant Hill Times.  He was a missionary with his family in Africa for over 20 years and is fluent in French but now lives in Pleasant Hill and has offered to start tutoring us in French prior to us going to language school. We were able to spend some time with him yesterday and he has us working on learning our ABC’s and counting. I’m hopeful that I will be able to upload a video of us performing our ABC’s as a family in the near future for all to see. But until then I found a video on YouTube of someone else doing their ABC’s.

Bedtime Stories

Bedtime Stories with Adam Sandler was a great movie and our kids love telling bedtime stories now. It’s been fun setting up the frame work of a story and watching their minds set up all the details of how the good guys are going to win and what the bad guys are going to try and do. I’ll need to record some of these on video so we can get them on youtube. But until then you will just have to know that the red monster with lots of teeth that kicks people is no match for the super hero that lives in a shoe. Who needs tv when you have a 4 and 5 year old with awesome imaginations.
